ABOUT ME

John T. Barton, Author

I’m John Barton, a follower of Jesus Christ. I’m originally from Starkville, Mississippi, and have lived in Collierville, Tennessee, a suburb of Memphis, since 1996. My wife Candy and I have been married since 1986, and we are blessed to have three adult children and two daughters-in-law. I retired in 2019 after a long career with International Paper. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed having more time to do things I love: visiting family and friends, studying God’s Word, journaling, walking, serving in church, reading, writing, and encouraging others. I also enjoy sports, especially when my alma mater, Mississippi State, is involved. I’ve dealt with unusual disabilities for most of my adult life, especially since 2008. That’s the year that, by God’s grace, I survived Stage four tongue cancer. My life after cancer has looked much different than it did before, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. I am a very blessed man.

Amazing Days of Grace Now Available!

Contented to live a normal life in an abnormal way.

Drinking a glass of water, eating a meal with family or friends, conversing with others at social events, or introducing yourself to someone new are all ordinary parts of life for most people. But for me, these seemingly simple activities took on a whole new perspective after being afflicted with Stage 4 tongue cancer. Little did I know of the transformational journey God had in store for me through cancer and its aftermath.

In Amazing Days of Grace, I invite you to follow the journey of:

• Unparalleled joy amid tremendous pain,

• Richer depths of life when death was imminent,

• Surpassing peace while adapting to an odd new lifestyle,

...And how God’s amazing blessings of grace have covered each step of the way.

Yet this book is about more than the cancer journey that changed the lives of my wife Candy and me. It is a collection of stories of how God blessed us before, during, and after cancer. It includes essays on some of the most important things God has taught us along the way. It is my sincere hope that you will consider reading Amazing Days of Grace.

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
